circumcise circumstances
Let's just start off with the meaning of.....
Circumcise:
To remove the prepuce of (a male)/cut the foreskin off male babies or teenage boys.
To remove all or part of the clitoris, prepuce, or labia of (a female).
In Malay Language it's called "sunat". It's just random that i am blogging about subject; this is because a little boy whom i saw just now make me think(sooo much things i'd thought about) and now, i am just spilting it.
The boy.
I was strolling back home from the bustop to my block(from school). While waiting for the lift to fly me to third floor, a little kid came out from the shop(infront of the lift) wearing a kain sarong(cloth) when i spotted him lifting up a particular spot(the clothla) a few inches from his pain(you know where). It was kind of cute to see that little boy walking to the shop buying somethings as if kampong days, but now hdb, to see that little boy it was like woahh.. tak sakit ke? Still can wandered. Smiled and thats where i started thinking as i see him walked away until i missed my lift.
Last week, my aunt gave birth to Raiyan(Ryan). The name seems like a typical caucasian name but it meant "yang hidup" or the living. Yes, a Muslim name. (i was delighted when i read the book full of Muslim names for babies with the meanings, deep meanings). Most caucasian names are mostly Muslim names. That's not what i want to say for now..
Then i found out that Raiyan had been circumcised! *sad okay. And, he could have did it like a few years later. I pitied him for the pain he had to suffer, then. Because normally its the baby girl who will get circumcised first.
Undoubtedly the kairotic moment for most young Muslim Malay boys would be the time they circumcised. The joyous occasion when the foreskin bade its little winky au revoir. Way back during our fathers’ time, there were specialized circumcision-izers called Tok Mudim who would skillfully skin away foreskins using the humble razor blade with no anesthetic at all.
I must thank the almighty god I was not born during those times(to hear them yell). Simply put it lets just say that when you are at the mercy of the Tok Mudims, every minute would seemed like an hour. Fast forward today in sg context, with the advent of modern science, circumcision involve the use of anesthetic, laser (to cut the foreskin with diamond-like-precision) & stiches to hold the bloody skin in place. In a jiffy you are officially foreskinless.(its weird .. a chick writing about this, my brother got sunat at the age of 7) That's to sum it of.
Early this week while scanning through Yahoo! News, I stumbled upon this report that un-circumcised men are at a far greater risk in contracting HIV. It listed down how some scientists went to conduct experiments with some bushmen in some parts of Africa. (can try to read and search)
PS: like i experienced this thing. k.. i did... no recollection, unfortunately..ahaha! too "baby" to remember..
